I have done some very interesting things in the name of math and science in the last few years! In 2014, I went to New Jersey to attend the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy. There, I met people from around the United States that I've been able to share math and science teaching ideas with. I also heard world class speakers and received some of the best training available to elementary math and science teachers! It was amazing!
In 2015, I attended the Honeywell Educators at Space Academy. There I got to meet astronauts, perform 2 simulated missions (one of which included a zero gravity space walk), and get some great ideas on how to incorporate space science lessons and general engineering lessons into my curriculum. The best part was meeting people from around the world and working with them on a team! In 2016, I wrote a grant to start a new science lab and maker space. View the pictures on my classroom page to see how much my students enjoy using it! In the Fall of 2016, I was chosen to help excavate the mastodon at the Fowler Center. That was an amazing experience, in which I got to work alongside world famous paleontologist Dr. Dan Fisher! I literally got my hands (and every other part of me!) dirty in the name of science! After completing the excavation, our team was able to go to the U of M Museum of Natural History to see what was being done to the bones that we dug up. Dr. Fisher took us into the basement, which had MILLIONS of specimens! It was truly one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had! |
4th Grade Math
Talking during math class...really? You mean you want us to talk during math class?!? I do, I really do. I want you to learn to share your ideas, to discuss how to find the answers to challenging problems, and to work in groups to solve real life problems.

5th Grade MAth
Have you ever wondered how some kids just seem to get math and others don't? Did you know that EVERYONE can learn math? In my math class, we think of many ways to find the answer and we discuss how we got our answers. Be prepared for light bulbs to turn on!

Science
My science class is all about learning through doing! Get ready to wonder, to test hypotheses, to design experiments, and to complete engineering challenges!
